If you’re a nurse licensed in Texas, there’s an important change coming to the license renewal process.

Beginning September 1, 2026, Texas nurses will be required to upload documentation of their required continuing education (CE) before renewing their nursing license.

The change stems from Senate Bill 912 (SB 912), passed during the 89th Texas Legislative Session, which requires healthcare licensing entities to establish systems for tracking continuing education compliance.

For nurses, that means keeping your CE certificates organized is about to become even more important.

Texas nurses are familiar with the general continuing nursing education requirement: complete 20 contact hours of continuing nursing education (CNE) or maintain an approved national nursing certification during each licensing renewal cycle.
