
Texas Board of Nursing Rule 216.3(g) β Nursing Jurisprudence and Ethics
Per Rule 216.3(g) of the Texas Board of Nursing, all licensed vocational nurses (LVNs), registered nurses (RNs), and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) must complete:
At least 2 contact hours of Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) relating to nursing jurisprudence and nursing ethics every third licensing period (approximately every six years).
Required Course Content
To meet this requirement, the course must address:
- The Texas Nursing Practice Act
- Texas Board of Nursing (BON) Rules and Regulations
- The Standards of Nursing Practice
- Principles of ethical nursing practice
Additional topics may include:
- Documentation standards
- Professional boundaries
- Informed consent
- Disciplinary action processes
- Ethical dilemmas in practice
These 2 contact hours:
- Count toward the total 20 contact hours of CNE required for renewal.
- Must be completed within the correct licensing period.
