Respiratory Health and Lung Disease

The average adult takes 15 to 20 breaths a minute, which amounts to over 20,000 breaths a day. Your respiratory system, which includes your nose, throat, windpipe (trachea) and lungs, brings air into your body when you breathe. In your lungs, the oxygen from each breath is transferred to the bloodstream and sent to all the body's cells as life-sustaining fuel. (American Lung Association)

Breathing, one of the things that we do all the time without thinking; you don't have to spend all your time thinking "breathe in, now breathe out", your body does that automatically. It is important to take care of your lungs and keep them away from harmful things, especially cigarette smoke. It is reported that allergies can also increase the frequency and severity of reparatory problems.

The article “Allergies May Boost Severity of Lung Disease” at WebMD talks about the how studies find that hay fever increases frequency of respiratory problems in COPD patients. We can never be too careful in the care that we take in our lung health.
