Links Between Fall Risk and Dementia and Alzheimer's
The article looks at use of antidepressants and antipsychotics used to treat the behavioral symptoms of Alzheimer's and Dementia patients. The study used Medicare claims data to identify patients who were new to using the medications to treat their Alzheimer's and Dementia related symptoms. The results of the study found that antidepressants were associated with higher dall and fracture risk in older adult patients with Alzheimer's and Dementia than those on antipsychotic medications.
