Arizona LPN “IV Certification” Requirements

Through the Nurse Practice Act’s rules and statutes the board defines the scope of practice for all nurses and through Advisory Opinions, the board has provided further clarification of the infusion related procedures licensed nurses are able to perform as well as clarification of the expected minimal education requirements to perform these infusion related functions. Advisory opinions also specify what specific procedures are not allowed by a particular licensee or is considered out of their scope of practice.

Pedagogy has created a 3 course package designed to meet the specific requirements of the Arizona Board of Nursing to fulfill the education requirements necessary for LPN’s.  Sometimes referred to as “IV Certification” this 3 course package is completed online, and nurses may print their certificate of completion upon passing each final exam with an 80% or better. The package contains the courses Arizona Legalities of Infusion Therapy, The Basics of Peripheral IV Therapy; Current Standards of Practice, and Current Practices in the Management of Central Lines- a total of 13.5 contact hours of education.  The board has specific recommendations on skill competency verifications and within the course you learn the number of successful peripheral IV “sticks’ that are recommended by the board. Within the course you will find skill competency check-off lists that are to be completed with an employer preceptor.
