American Heart Association Releases New Guidelines for CPR

Based on evidence, the AHA made changes to their recommendations of how CPR should be performed to increase the chances of positive outcomes for the patient. The resulting recommended changes have been incorporated into our online course, CPR for the Healthcare Professional.

The AHA has also recommended that those who are likely to encounter cardiac arrest, should consider re-training or re-fresher sessions. The refresher sessions have proven to improve skills and boost confidence for the student.

Pedagogy’s online CPR course is updated annually – once a student participates in our CPR education, the course may always be accessed by logging into your personal dashboard. CPR skill competency checklists have also recently been added to our online course.  These lists facilitate the practice and observance of the skills necessary for the online course participants.

Facilities accomplish the skills portion of BLS, by purchasing a CPR mannequin. In recent years these mannequins have become very affordable and, by having an in-house mannequin, staff is able to have frequent practice sessions of their CPR skills. You may click here to access a list of mannequin providers, or do a simple online search for CPR mannequins.

In February of 2015 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued guidance to all nursing homes that online only CPR certification courses were no longer acceptable. However, CMS does allow online CPR education with the required hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment.

Pedagogy’s online CPR course with skill competency checklist to facilitate ongoing practice and skills validation- is the perfect cost savings solution to providing your staff with CPR and BLS certification, as well as the recommended practice sessions.
