A Look at Bladder Health Month
In the blog post the author writes, "While I have no agenda to compare breast cancer with bladder health, (apples and oranges) I do wonder what’s taking us bladder health experts from hopping on the bandwagon and making the Chicago skyline yellow.
Here’s the thing, I think I know why BHAM slips by without many people knowing about it. After a lengthy Google search, I couldn’t find an actual mission of Bladder Health Awareness Month. I don’t even know who conceived the idea. It’s a fantastic idea, by the way, someone needs to take credit. Without a mission, however, it’s difficult to formulate what to write about. (You: Clearly, as I’m reading this blog and I have yet to know what you’re talking about. Me:Point Taken) All I know that this information is important and we need to do a better job of raising awareness that help exists in many different forms.
After 8 years of working with women with incontinence, painful urination, and other bladder health disorders, I know how these symptoms affect quality of life. Women (and men) stop doing what they love to do because their bladder begins to rule their lives. When people stop doing what they love to do, they are susceptible to a host of issues including depression.
If you or you know someone who is “silently suffering” with bladder health issues: talk to your healthcare provider or visit our website at www.womenshealthfoundation.org. Make Bladder Health Awareness month mean something."
