Nursing Strategies for the Care of Hospitalized Children with Autism

Nurses are the healthcare professionals that people most trust. Parents often share with nurses their fears, hopes, and dreams. Nurses may observe unordinary and unique behaviors in children and adults in their communities. Although nurses do not diagnose autism and their role may not be direct treatment and care of the child with autism, all nurses are stewards for the early recognition and treatment of autism. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) consider early treatment of autism an important part of making a positive difference in outcomes.

This online continuing nurse education course provides information to guide nurses’ understanding, observations, and responses when meeting someone with autism in community settings, during routine clinic appointments, and hospitalizations.
