An Introduction to Poliomyelitis

This online continuing education (CEU/CE) course provides nurses with a comprehensive overview of poliomyelitis, including its virology, transmission, clinical manifestations, and historical significance. This course provides an historical overview of poliomyelitis, strains of the poliovirus, types of polio, how to diagnose poliomyelitis, treatments, vaccine development, herd immunity, and polio vaccination advice for travelers. The course also examines global eradication efforts and the nurse's role in surveillance, education, and advocacy. Designed to enhance clinical knowledge and public health awareness, this course equips nurses with the tools to better provide person-centered care to polio survivors and respond to potential outbreaks effectively.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  4. List symptoms of poliomyelitis infection. 
  5. Tell about tests used to diagnose poliomyelitis.
