Health Disparities of People Living in Appalachia

This course is designed to inform nurse clinicians about the health disparities of those living in the Appalachia region of the United States and how it affects the health of the community and the overall health of the nation. This course is designed to increase awareness and education for the need for accessible, affordable healthcare for those living in the Appalachian region. Additionally, the course is designed to support educating practitioners on the current risk factors of the population and encourage implementation of programs and policies to improve health and healthcare delivery systems in the Appalachia.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  1. Describe health disparities facing the people of the Appalachia region.
  2. identify the core issues communities are facing in Appalachia, and how they negatively affect the overall health of its inhabitants.
  3. Discuss prevalent health issues affecting the people of the Appalachia region, and the documented health issues that are higher than current national averages.
