All implanted ports must be accessed with a non-coring needle, sometimes referred to as a Huber™ Needle. Non-coring needles are manufactured by many companies with each having specific features. You will need to have knowledge of the brand used in your institution and reference the manufacturer’s instructions for use. Non-coring needles come in many sizes to fit the depth of the port and viscosity of the infusate. Several companies have developed power injector ports used for injecting contrast materials in enhanced imaging procedures. These power ports must be accessed with a power non-coring and extension. Always use safety engineered devices for needlestick prevention.
