NCLEX Tips and Strategies for Success

Many nursing new grads spend copious amounts of time cramming for the NCLEX. They read book after book, and answer question after question, hoping that they will cover all possible question scenarios. The fact is that when new grads focus mostly on content rather than test-taking strategies, they are likely to fail on the first attempt.

Here’s the inside scoop – The nursing license exam is not a tool to measure your comprehensive nursing knowledge. What the NCLEX is however, is a tool designed to measure your ability to critically think, to analyze and interpret data, and to make the safest possible decisions to reach the BEST anticipated outcomes. Yes, you will need to have a basic understanding of all of the nursing content that you learned in school, but don’t focus your time cramming that information because you already know it – you already passed your nursing school exams, and that’s proof enough!

So instead of focusing on the specifics of everything you learned in nursing school, you should be mastering test-taking strategies that will help you to pick apart questions and identify exactly what the question is asking. So put down that tedious nursing med-surg text book, and start learning how you can develop the strategies necessary to master the NCLEX!

Best Wishes!
