This online CNE course is designed to assist health care professionals in understanding the definition of violence, the prevalence of violence in health care settings, and interventions that can be implemented to increase workplace safety. This course helps the health care professional identify potential risk factors of violence, hazards in the workplace, and interventions that can de-escalate possible violent instances. The health care professional will learn the responsibilities of the employer and employee in controlling workplace violence. These responsibilities include fulfilling training obligations and developing a healthcare workplace violence prevention program. Also, the health care professional will learn specific communication techniques that can help prevent escalating encounters and dangerous situations. Violence on health care workers is four times greater than in all other work industries combined. It is essential that today’s health care workers can identify risk factors and learn ways to protect themselves and the patients they care for.
