Viral Respiratory Infections

The purpose of this continuing education program is to inform and educate healthcare providers on the signs and symptoms of viral respiratory infections. This course will reinforce the need for the use of over-the-counter dangers with young children. Viral respiratory viruses can exacerbate chronic illnesses in children, adults and elderly persons. The importance of decontaminating environmental surfaces and hand washing to prevent the spread of these viruses is very important. This course will explain the supportive treatment used in illnesses caused by viral respiratory viruses.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the causes of common viral respiratory syndromes.
  2. Name the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
  3. Describe the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of rhinoviruses (RVs).
  4. Explain the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of human parainfluenza viruses (HPIV).
  5. Practice prevention techniques to help stop the transmission of respiratory viruses.
