Safe Food Handling and Preparation - Online Inservice

Healthcare providers working in residential care homes and home care have a responsibility to ensure safe food handling and preparation practices are used. Incorrect food handling and preparation can lead to foodborne illnesses, which can cause an array of symptoms and even death. This course outlines proper food storage, preparation, and the common signs and symptoms of foodborne illnesses.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify safe food storage practices.
  2. Identify safe food preparation practices.
  3. Verbalize safe internal temperatures and the temperature “danger zone”.
  4. Recite at least three common symptoms of foodborne illnesses.
  5. State who are at higher risk of contracting foodborne illnesses.
