Malnutrition and Dehydration - Online Inservice

Ensuring clients maintain proper nutrition and hydration can be difficult, especially if they are acutely or chronically ill. This course will teach nurse aides and patient care techs the signs and symptoms of malnutrition and dehydration as well as provide some tips and tricks to use in their day-to-day to boost intake. Additionally, this course will discuss proper fluid and dietary intake.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Explain physical and chemical changes in the ill and elderly that affect the way their
    bodies absorb nutrients from food.
  2. Explain why the body needs fluids.
  3. Recognize symptoms that may be caused by not getting enough nutrients or fluids.
  4. Describe foods, nutrients, and fluids that are needed every day.
  5. Describe ways to encourage healthful eating and drinking.
