Fluid and electrolyte preparations are the most commonly prescribed medications in hospitals and other healthcare settings. It is crucial that nurses understand the water and electrolyte balance as this is crucial for body homeostasis. The following video series will discuss normal and abnormal fluid and electrolyte balances, the factors that contribute to imbalances, types of imbalances, and nursing interventions you can use to correct imbalances. Electrolytes regulate fluid balance, hormone production, strengthen skeletal structures, and act as catalyst in nerve responses, muscle contraction, and help with the metabolism of nutrients. The electrolytes sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride and phosphate will be discussed individually. Each chapter is presented as a video enabling you to learn fluid and electrolyte concepts in a fun and engaging manner.
