This course is designed for nurses who treat patients in critical or intensive care units. Providing nursing care to patients experiencing life-threatening conditions presents unique challenges. This course will explore creating and engaging in a supportive environment, how to communicate, how to ensure standards of care and protocols are followed, engaging patients in their care, ways to learn from mistakes, and methods to decrease the second victim syndrome occurrence. The nurse learner will become knowledgeable about the unique challenges that nurses are faced with in providing safe care to patients with critical needs and intense care regimens. The nurse will learn the components needed for a team culture of safety and error prevention and identify ways to integrate communication that prevents error occurrence. The nurse will learn about how to outline the needed steps to manage errors, prevent future errors, and support nurses when an error occurs.
