This Resident’s Rights and HIPAA: Considerations for Nursing Assistants course will provide participants with a review of the basic considerations and guidelines necessary to protect the rights and privacy of their residents. This review can be utilized for nursing assistive personnel in the settings of Long Term Care, Assisted Living and Home Care. Within this course, the participant will review universal human rights, residents rights, informed consent, resident refusal, notification of changes, how to protect resident’s personal property and finances, protecting a resident’s dignity, protecting a resident’s right to social interaction and visitation, grievance processes and procedures, and maintaining the confidentiality of patient information by following HIPAA guidelines.

This online inservice course may be taken by an individual certified nurse assistant, in a complete online format. Review the course online from any computer or tablet with an internet connection, answer our interactive review questions at the end of each chapter, then complete the final exam. With a successful completion of the exam of 80% or better, students will complete an evaluation of the course and then be able to print a certificate of completion.
