Psychosocial Care - Online Inservice

The greatest definition of psychosocial care can be found in the National Council for Hospice and Specialist (2000) where it is defined as “being concerned with the psychological and emotional wellbeing of the patients and their families/caregivers, including issues of self-esteem, insight into an adaption to their illness and its consequences, communication, social functioning, and relationships.” The theory of psychosocial care is different from the theory of biomedical care in that psychosocial care adopts the holistic beliefs of the diseases, psychology, social and spiritual health of patients whereas the latter care strictly for patients’ physical ill-health. This course will equip nurse aides with the tools needed to provide competent psychosocial care to their patients and residents in all healthcare settings.
