Implicit Bias Education for Kentucky Healthcare Professionals
Studies show that implicit bias around demographics such as race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, and socioeconomic status causes inequalities in treatment by healthcare professionals. This course will identify how implicit bias affects the perception and treatment decisions of healthcare professionals, how this affects patient health outcomes, and provide solutions for overcoming implicit bias on both personal and systematic levels.
This online CE course fulfills the requirements set by the Kentucky Board of Nursing that registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and advanced practice registered nurses who obtain licensure by examination, endorsement, or reinstatement after July 1, 2022, shall satisfy the continuing competency requirement of completing a minimum of 1.50 contact hours in implicit bias that addresses:
1. The impact of historical racism and other forms of invidious discrimination on the provision of healthcare.
2. Methods of evaluating the presence and extent of implicit bias; and
3. Measures that may be taken to reduce implicit bias.
