Comprehensive Management of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) - Online Inservice

This course provides nurse aids, caregivers, and educators with an in-depth understanding of Substance Use Disorder (SUD), its complexities, and effective management strategies. Participants will explore the biological, psychological, and social factors contributing to SUD and gain knowledge of evidence-based treatments, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT), behavioral therapies, and harm-reduction approaches. The course emphasizes a holistic, person-centered approach to care, addressing stigma, preventing relapse, and supporting long-term recovery in diverse settings, including community healthcare and long-term care facilities. By the end of this course, participants will be prepared to deliver informed, compassionate care for individuals impacted by SUD and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Define Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and understand its impact on individuals and communities.
  2. Identify risk factors, causes, and the biological and psychological mechanisms of SUD.
  3. Recognize the signs of overdose and apply emergency response techniques.
  4. Develop skills for managing withdrawal symptoms and preventing relapse.
  5. Apply knowledge of SUD management in diverse care settings, including long-term care facilities.
